Technical Safety Design

The Barry Hydrogen Project will support the green hydrogen sector by producing and supplying green hydrogen for the decarbonisation of industrial operations around the Port of Barry. This strategic location, owned by Associated British Ports, has recently been designated as the site for the development of the Clean Growth Hub, aligning the collective vision of for sustainable growth and future across the Port of Barry.

The challenge

To address potential risks and hazards associated with the project during the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, Process Risk Consulting were commissioned to facilitate the Project Risk Assessment, Hazard Identification (HAZID), Environmental Identification (ENVID), Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS), Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Allocation Workshops , in line with ENI Guidelines for the Protos pipeline and associated facilities.

The scope of workshop included all of the onshore transport and storage facilities including several onshore pipelines and Above Ground Installations (AGI’s).

The Altalto project’s aim is to deliver a commercial waste-to-SAF plant in Immingham, UK. The plant is expected to make 300,000 tonnes of SAF per year.

The challenge

Process Risk Consulting were commissioned to assist the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) team as a Technical Safety Design Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide a thorough review of project deliverables, mainly the Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) to ensure that a safe philosophy has been implemented within the design.

Associated British Ports (ABP) is seeking to construct, operate and maintain the Immingham Green Energy Terminal (IGET) – a new multi-user liquid bulk green energy terminal located on the eastern side of the Port of Immingham – the first of its kind in the world.

Air Products would be the first customer to use the new facility for the production of green hydrogen alongside a second operator for the filling of Carbon Dioxide onto vessels to be injected into offshore wells.
